Stunting remains a significant public health problem affecting children’s growth and development, particularly in Indonesia. Maternal factors are known to play an important role in influencing the risk of stunting during early childhood. This study aimed to identify maternal factors associated with stunting among children aged 2–5 years in Kediri Regency. This study employed an analytical observational design with a case–control approach. The population consisted of 145 children aged 2–5 years, with a sample of 106 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The variables studied included maternal education, family income, childcare practices, maternal nutritional status during pregnancy, and history of low birth weight (LBW). Data were collected using questionnaires and medical record reviews. Data analysis included univariate analysis, Chi-square tests for bivariate analysis, and logistic regression for multivariate modeling. The bivariate analysis showed that childcare practices, maternal education, maternal nutritional status during pregnancy, and LBW were significantly associated with stunting. However, the multivariate analysis revealed that only LBW remained a significant determinant. Children with a history of LBW had an 8.56 times higher risk of experiencing stunting compared to children with normal birth weight. Conclusion low birth weight is the dominant maternal-related factor associated with stunting among children aged 2–5 years in Kediri Regency. Strengthening maternal nutrition during pregnancy, improving the quality of antenatal care, and ensuring optimal management of infants with LBW are essential strategies to reduce the risk of stunting.
